Projects

Exploring what barriers exist preventing ex-offenders from accessing HE and looking into the suitability of current Information, Advice and Guidance for this group of potential students.

WHO IS IT FOR?: The project will be useful for any organisation wishing to promote Higher Education to underrepresented people.

CASE STUDY: The case study aimed to identify offender and ex-offender aspirations and barriers to accessing HE and the suitability of current Information resources for this group.  It was led by Totton College.

ABOUT: This project involved carrying out research with twenty offenders/ex-offenders in the community to establish their learning goals. Taster days were then developed with the help of Aimhigher to promote greater understanding of university life and the courses on offer. Recruitment, engagement and progression opportunities were developed to help tackle the barriers, perceived and actual, experienced by the participants. The project concluded with an event where the findings were disseminated and recommendations were made to an audience of stakeholders.
