Skills and Attributes needed for
Higher Education
Skills you already have?
The qualities outlined in 'Skills and Attributes needed for HE' are transferable skills that you will have picked up through everyday life at home, through social activities or at work. They are skills that can be transferred to any situation.
Your current job, hobbies or voluntary activities may give you this sort of evidence.
- Do you volunteer to help with school activities such as a classroom reader or take after school groups such as swimming or Brownies?
- Do you volunteer for your local church or other voluntary groups and join in activities such as organising events and mentoring?
- Are you on a committee such as the PTA with responsibility for taking minutes, writing letters, communicating with people?
- Are you happy to stand up and discuss and debate – maybe you do this through trade union or community activities?
- Are you a secret blogger, a writer of prose or poetry, maybe you write letters as a private campaigner?
Can you juggle time?
