Are you prepared for high level training?
Many people wrongly think they couldn’t get into Higher Education (HE) or that the work would be too hard. Does this sound like you:
- Your schooling was disrupted and you left school without any qualifications
- Your highest qualifications could be GCSEs or A Levels, but you never planned to study further
- You have talked yourself out of studying for a degree because you lack self esteem and have little confidence in your own ability
- You entered your working life with GCSEs or A levels and worked your way up in a job that pays well, but you now want a change
- You think you couldn’t possibly do a degree because none of your friends or relations have
If you answered yes to one of these read on…
Many adults in the UK have the potential and ability to study for a degree or professional qualification but have been unable to do so because their education was disrupted due to family, financial, social or personal circumstances. They may have few, if any, formal qualifications, have been out of education for some years and thought that they had missed any opportunity to pursue goals of higher education.
If you have work experience but lack the traditional entry qualifications such as A Levels you may not need formal qualifications to study at Higher Education level. Course leaders will like to see that you have the skills, ability and knowledge to cope with studying at an appropriate level to succeed on your course and for some subjects you may be asked to take an entry test in maths and/or English.
For many courses, it does not matter whether your skills were gained through formal study, work or spare time activities.
Higher Education courses in Further Education Colleges and Universities actively welcome applications from anyone who might benefit from their courses, whatever their age, background, disability or personal circumstances might be. These institutions are particularly interested to hear from people who feel they may have missed out on opportunities so far.
