HI-LLN takes higher education message to Mela

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Lifelong Learning Network was among the organisations with a stall at this year’s successful Southampton Mela Festival at Hogland’s Park.

Described as a “celebrasian” of modern and traditional Asian culture, the Mela is now one of the city’s biggest free events. As well as the usual variety of lively music from around the globe, there were many vivid exhibitions to see, workshops to take part in and stalls selling an assortment of goods including clothing, gifts and beauty treatments.

Organised by Art Asia, the Mela was launched in 2003 and has gone from strength to strength - this year attracted an impressive 20,000 visitors.

The HI-LLN was based in the community tent, which is where local organisations promote their services in Southampton and the surrounding area. The stall proved popular attracting a variety of people keen to find out how to boost their skills and get a place at university.
